I’ve been counting my macros for 10 weeks now and at first, I didn’t have a clue about any of it. It was totally over-whelming and I felt stressed out and paranoid about what everything meant.
Now I have a good understanding of what foods to eat and avoid depending on carb/protein/fat content.
The hardest things for me have been snacks as there can be so many hidden calories and fat, plus I’m not a huge fan of protein shakes on their own so trying to make these tasty has been a challenge.
But now I have my favourites, plus you can buy them on the go! Here are my top high-protein, tasty snacks.
0% Fage yoghurt with Fibre One Bar
Without a doubt, my favourite snack at the moment and the perfect treat either mid-morning or mid-afternoon to keep you going, Simply combine 150g-200g of Fage 0% Greek Yoghurt and crumble in a Fibre One bar. Salted Caramel or Chocolate Brownie are my fave! You can even buy 170g snack pots on the go for the Fage yogurt if you are out and about.
Protein Oats (Proats)
A great pre-workout to give you energy before the gym and it tastes like cake! I’ve mentioned this one a couple of times on my Instagram but it is the easiest thing to make and so yummy with a great high protein content. It’s much tastier than just mixing your protein with water too.
Add a scoop of protein powder of your choice with 30-40g of wholegrain rolled oats and some berries. My two favourites are:
- 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder, 40g oats, 50g rasberries
- 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder, 40g oats, 50g blueberries
This will give your sweet tooth a treat and build your muscles!
Cottage cheese on rice cakes
If you prefer a savoury snack, cottage cheese on rice cakes hits the nail on the head. You can buy cottage cheese with chives or pineapple if you prefer but I have my plain and just add a tiny bit of salt and some cracked black pepper. Add 100g cottage cheese onto 2 rice cakes for a quick, high protein snack.
0% Fage Yoghurt with protein powder
Game. Changer. Perfect for a post dinner sweet treat. And yes, I love Fage.
Add a scoop of protein powder into a bowl, I used Chocolate Peanut Cookie Dough (The Protein Works). Add a tiny bit of water at a time, stirring to make a paste and getting rid of any bumps. Once to the desired consistency (you want it thick with no lumps or grains) add in 200g of Fage yoghurt. Add a few frozen berries on top and enjoy!
